Work ExperienceJan 2003 – current System Engineer USD, IncUSD is an authorized distributor for AC Delco and Motorcraft car parts. Combined with their sister company in Dallas, TX, USD has 8 warehouses throughout 4 states. Each warehouse is interconnected to two main offices (in Phoenix and Dallas) where an AIX server at each location runs custom COBOL applications for warehouse inventory, sales, payroll, HR and ordering. These COBOL applications also feed Java-based web servers located on the same box, or separate AIX server. If any part of the infrastructure fails (hardware, internet, LAN, operating system), the buck stops with me. COBOL uptime is handled by the developers · Remotely manage IT-infrastructure for warehouses in AZ, OK, TX and NM. WAN is a mixture of frame-relay or IPSec (PIX-to-PIX) VPN's over T1 lines · Managed four ISP change-over’s · Write and manage PIX and Router configurations for all locations; handle Cisco hardware and IOS upgrades; installation support; third party-vendors · Three Production RS6000-based AIX Servers: Add/Remove hardware; upgraded OS from 4.x to 5.x,; install/update Apache/mySQL/Macromedia JRun/AcuCOBOL/samba/ many smaller tools; administer users; monitor (monitor/top/lsof) system activity; written Perl/bash scripts to automate a number of processes using cron; perform backups (cpio, mksysb, rsync, smbclient to Windows boxes) · Two Development RS6000-based AIX Servers: Introduced development environment where the company’s live data is synchronized nightly so the developers (including myself) test new Java and COBOL code; test patches, software upgrades before applying to live · Two Production Windows 2000 Server, 1 Windows 2003 Server: DHCP services, several websites (internal) using IIS 6.0; file server; AIX-file backup; Terminal Services; provide all support and upgrades for servers (Dell, Compaq and generic) · 24x7 support 100+ PCs and multiple WYSE (WinCE and green-screen) terminals across all sites · Develop/maintain 4 company websites. Sites account for 60%+ of daily sales ($100k/day) · Websites are served via JSP back-end with XSL/XML style-sheets, HTML and Javascript · Developed custom-middleware for third party APIs (Wrenchead, EPartConnection, AConneX). Written in Java they allow customers to remotely search and order inventory through proprietary interfaces · Using Cisco Access Points, implemented a secure wireless environment for HHP wireless scanners Mar 2003 – current Consultant Empire Graphic DesignAid graphic-design company with technical aspects of website implementation writing ASP/CGI/Perl code providing their clients with better online presence. Work has included writing Excel conversion utilities, e-mail automation, data-entry tracking, JavaScript form validation and more. Aug 2005 – current Consultant Treestone Accounting Group, LLC.Provide accounting company with continuing network and technical support. Changed their peer network to a Windows 2k3 Active Directory secured server environment. Support all tax-related products, eFileCabinet, QuickBooks, TaxWise, TaxTools and more.
May 1998 - Dec 2002 Web Developer/SQL Administrator SpinCycle, LLC. SpinCycle (defunct) was a national Laundromat chain. At their height they had over 120 Laundromats throughout the US. Each location had a POS and manager PC that were networked together as a small LAN. The manager’s PC was tunneled into the head office, using PPTP, located in Scottsdale, AZ. The company hosted it’s own web and mail services · Migrated SQL Server 6.5 to 7.0 · Helped grow the company from 20 locations to 125 · Streamlined SQL Server and IIS 5.0 performance · Wrote site functional spec w/ detailed database schema; Implemented and enforced best practices in versioning, coding conventions, staging and roll-out procedures using Visual SourceSafe, InterDev · Wrote custom XML-based apps years before they were called AJAX. · Rewrote financial reporting system. · In 3 days, produced online ordering and reporting system for pickup and drop off laundry and dry cleaning service a "test bed" that helped raise $5m in equity/investment · Custom VB app for monitoring PeopleSoft application server · PeopleSoft Security Administrator · Ported Human Resources tools to the web ·
